How America Deals with Gun Violence

DC Mic Check Cartoonist in Chief Mike Flugennock offers his take on the ongoing gun control debate.

After seeing the first reports on the Newtown shootings, I knew I could skip the “news” coverage set to follow. I’ve seen the same cycle of public anguish, slobbering media frenzy, and useless “solutions” proposed every time this happens, going back to Columbine High if not earlier. I can now guess exactly what will happen, and when: the sobbing tears, the candlelight vigils, the media circus, the spasms of mass insanity, the political exploitation, the loss of media interest, the return to “normal”.

In between and as usual, commentators will place their stupidity on public display and glibly ask: “why?” Meanwhile, the American General Public will continue to ignore the mass murder of children overseas that’s committed in their name by their government.

I drew the cartoon above and promised myself I wouldn’t comment further on the current ongoing lame-assed, phony gun-control “debate”. Then came several days of brouhaha about how Obama goes skeet shooting all the time. When the White House conveniently released this photo of our Boy Emperor with a shotgun, actually taken last summer, well… I couldn’t resist.

Why am I not surprised that, after weeks of Liberal-style yammering about gun violence and murdered children, Team Obama suddenly decides to release this photo? It’s a blatant, weak attempt to pander to the NRA clowns, and classic Obama: fake left, run right.
