Get Involved!
The D.C. Mic Check is a free, full-color newspaper, available in print and online. As the ideals of the Occupy movement spread throughout the greater community, citizens have taken to the streets to demand new forms of expression and communication. With millions now calling for change, traditional American media outlets have largely abandoned the voices of the oppressed. More than ever, there is a need for this kind of strong and independent press to enable communication among the local grassroots.
The D.C. Mic Check was commissioned by the General Assembly of Occupy DC at McPherson Square. Free from corporate advertisers, this paper is dedicated to covering all aspects of the movement for social and economic justice in the D.C. area. Our goal is to show readers that there is real hope for change in D.C. by highlighting what is being done and showing them how they can join the fight.
How You Can Help:
Contribute! We rely on the local community for a large portion of our content as that is often the front line of progressive activism in D.C. Submit your story ideas, photos, or event previews, and we’ll work with you to get it online or in print. See Write for Us for more details.
Circulate! Weather you are a small business owner, librarian, community centre or individual, if you would like copies of the D.C. Mic Check, email us with the number of copies you would like and your address. We will happily drop some off.
Donate! In order to remain truly independent, we rely solely on donor contributions. Our Editorial Collective are all volunteers, so 100% of your monthly donation supports the local union printing of each issue, which are distributed for free around the D.C. metro area and made available for all online. Please go here to donate.
Thank you for your continued support!
